Grand Opening of the South Valley Splash Pad Was a Smashing Success!

On Friday July 20, 2018, Bernalillo County cut the ribbon at the South Valley Pool to celebrate the grand opening of the state’s largest splash pad.

County Commission Chair Steven Michael Quezada, Senator Michael Padilla, Representative Patricio Ruiloba and kids from Adobe Acres Elementary School were on hand for the opening of the state's largest splashpad next to the South Valley Pool at 3912 Isleta SW. 

The total cost of the project was $1.8 million, of which $1.4 million in county bonds was used.

This addition to the South Valley pool was made possible with a 2016 legislative grant of $400,000 along with county bond funds.
There were free hot dogs, sno-cones and a lot of fun!

Prices are $4.25 for adults 18 and over, $3.25 for kids 17 to 6, $2 for kids 5 and under. Spectators are $3. Active duty military and vets are free (with proof), as are seniors 55 and over. Hours are 12 to 4:45 for open rec swimming.

Genízaros, Native American slaves, were house servants, sheep herders, and in other capacities in the New Mexico Territory and parts of southern Colorado well into the 1800s. The presenter, co-editor of a forthcoming anthology along with Dr. Enrique LaMadrid entitled, Genízaro Nation, discussion of genízaro identity and ritual cultural performances.   • Teens and children ages 11-19 are invited to participate in Westside Community Center's T33n 3-on-3 basketball each Friday night from 7-10 from March 8 through April 12. Registration begins Jan. 28 and there is no charge to participate. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a mandatory 30-minute life skills workshop before the games begin.
