State Police Sergeant Ruben Franco Thanked by BernCo Commission

On Dec. 11 the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized State Police Sergeant Ruben Franco for going above and beyond the call of duty on Oct. 31, 2019, with swift and courageous actions that saved the lives of three residents of Bernalillo County.

On Oct. 31, 2019, while off duty, Sgt. Franco witnessed smoke rising from the area of 10th St. and Central Ave. Concerned for the general welfare, he investigated the smoke and discovered a building fire with three people trapped inside.

Upon discovering this emergency, he swiftly breached the property fence, and rushed over to the burning building with a fire extinguisher in hand. While battling flames, he successfully rescued the three people trapped inside, forging a safe escape from the horrible inferno. His swift decision to render aid prevented worse injuries befalling the rescuees.

Sgt. Franco’s courageous actions upheld the highest traditions of community police service.
