Board of Commissioners Thanks Wildland Firefighting Crew

On Dec. 11 the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners thanked the members of the New Mexico Task Force from the Bernalillo County Fire Department for their tireless dedication and service to protecting lives and property in communities nationwide.

Forest fires are terrible tragedies, often burning thousands of acres, endangering lives and property, and requiring the assistance of numerous agencies to contain and protect the community.

From Oct. 28 to Nov. 6, 2019, firefighters from Bernalillo County traveled to California as part of a task force under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact to provide wildland firefighting aid to the Easy and Maria Fires in Ventura County.

These firefighters were involved in protecting the Ronald Regan Presidential Library while fighting the Easy Fire in Ventura County.

Along with Albuquerque Fire & Rescue and the Corrales Fire Department, six Bernalillo County Fire Department members of the wildland fire team worked as part of the New Mexico Task Force to suppress these dangerous fires.

While in California, the Bernalillo County firefighters provided structure protection, constructed and maintained fire lines, and performed initial attacks on the two fires.
