State Champion Atrisco Heritage Boys Basketball Team Recognized


The Atrisco Heritage Academy Boys Basketball team was recognized at the March 26 Bernalillo County Commission administrative meeting for its fighting spirit, determination to win, and teamwork and sense of fair play on the court as champions of the 2019 Boys State Basketball Tournament.

The team won the state championship on March 16, 2019, at Dreamstyle Area, the Pit, after defeating Santa Fe High School in the championship game by a score of 61 to 58.

The Jags final record was 22 wins and 7 losses. The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguar players are: Dominic Rivas, Isaiah Brooks, Abram Saavedra, Zac Carmignanai, Joziah Ramos, DeMarcus Sutphen, Marquis Crawford, DJ Ornales, Elijah Sims, Malachi Hernandez-Crawford, Elijah Gaxiola, Christopher Gabaldon, Coby Wade, Deion Padilla, and Xavian Jimenez. The Jaguars are coached by head coach Adrian Ortega and assistant coaches Daniel Leyba, Adrian Ortega Jr., Corbin Waquie, and Chris Parra.

The 2019 basketball championship is the second in a row for the West Side school that has only been in existence since 2008. We honor your determination and dedication to the game of basketball.
