Commissioner Hart Stebbins Participated in Intergovernmental Policy Academy in Washington D.C.

In 2018, the National League of Cities (NLC), National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National Association of State Legislatures (NCSL) selected Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to participate in the “Intergovernmental Policy Academy: Young Adults and the Justice System.”

In January 2019, a city-county team made up of representatives from city, county and state government, including Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins, was invited to participate in the 2019 Intergovernmental Policy Academy January convening in Washington DC.

The purpose of the convening is to help cities, counties and states work effectively together to drive policy change that results in the reduction of the number of young adults in justice systems. It provides specific guidance from NLC, NACo and NCSL.

It is an honor that Bernalillo County is being recognized for the work that it is doing in this field.

The Intergovernmental Policy Academy initiative receives support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as part of the Safety and Justice Challenge.

NLC, NACo, and NCSL will provide 12 months of long-distance technical assistance to participating jurisdictions, offer opportunities to reconvene virtually and in person.
