County Commission Acknowledges Highland High School Family and Career Community Leaders


At its April 9 administrative meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners conveyed its sincere admiration to the Highland High School Family and Career Community Leaders of America chapter for the group’s prestigious accomplishments and honors as New Mexico state champions and representatives to the national FCCLA competition.

The Highland High School FCCLA chapter won first in the state Chapter Service Project Display, first in the state Promote and Publicize, first in the State Focus on Children, first in the State Sports Nutrition, first in the State Culinary Arts, second in the State Job Interview, second in the State Recycle and Redesign, second in the state Illustrated Talk, fourth in the state Life Event Planning and a Gold Medal Chapter Banner.

At the state competition the Highland High School FCCLA chapter won 17 gold medals, two silver medals, and $24,000 worth of scholarships.

Highland High School is the only APS high school that qualified and will be representing New Mexico at nationals for a second year in a row. It is also the only school that qualified 100% of its state competitors to compete at the national competition in Anaheim, Calif., from June 30 – July 4, 2019, sending 19 students, five volunteers, and three advisors, all while raising its own funds to support its national trip for the second year in a row.
