At its Feb. 26 administrative meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized the following students for their generosity and selfless acts they provide to their community:

Diana Mullen, Albuquerque High School
Stephanie Colmenero, Atrisco Heritage Academy High School
Joseph Doucette, Cibola High School
Austin Brown, Del Norte High School
Evangelina Moralez-Norris, Eldorado High School
Emma Kostelecky, Highland High School

Amy Hernandez, Rio Grande High School
Trazon Jimerson, Sandia High School
Sienna Mascarenas, Valley High School
Vaneka Hoskie, Volcano Vista High School
Jasmin Alcala, West Mesa High School
Nicholas Miller, Nex+Gen Academy

Each and every day, acts of generosity and selflessness are made by students throughout our community without recognition.

Residents throughout the county benefit from the acts of kindness of these citizens and will continue to benefit from their philanthropic works after their high school graduation.

Over 83,000 students currently enrolled in Albuquerque Public Schools benefit from the mentorship and support of their peers.

The acts of selflessness made by high school seniors serve as an example to younger students and provide a call to all citizens to make Bernalillo County a better place to live and learn.

Schools and organizations across the county serving those in need benefit tremendously from the volunteer efforts of our youth to help those who are disadvantaged to find comfort, friendship and valuable resources to achieve a brighter tomorrow.

Thank you for demonstrating selflessness and being an example for others to follow.

APS Education Foundation

The Board of Commissioners also recognized the APS Education Foundation for its outstanding civic leadership and direction of the high school Selfless Seniors Program recognizing teens who exemplify the spirit and dedication to helping their community.

As a nonprofit educational entity of the Albuquerque Public Schools, the APS Education Foundation was established to support and fund innovative programs and projects providing opportunities for students to succeed in the classroom and beyond. The APS Education Foundation is supported by community gifts and serves the more than 84,000 students through programs such as Selfless Seniors. These high school seniors, one from each APS high school, are honored for their support and selfless acts and contributions to bettering our community.

To honor these seniors, the APS Foundation also hosts the Gold Bar Gala, the foundation’s signature event. Corporate leaders, APS leaders, educators, and citizens who are passionate about education, gather to recognize excellence in education and the philanthropic spirit of the Selfless Seniors. Proceeds from the gala are used to fund foundation programs and projects such as STEM, literacy, fine arts, clubs and activities, school climate initiatives, and more.

Thank you for your service to the students of Bernalillo County and Albuquerque Public Schools and for fostering an enthusiasm of civic pride and duty in the teens of our community.

Frank Frost Photography

Frank Frost Photography was also recognized by the Board for its creative spirit, support, and commitment to the Selfless Seniors Program of the APS Education Foundation.

Frank Frost Photography approached the APS Education Foundation 11 years ago with the idea of honoring high school seniors for their community service and assistance to those in need. Your idea was to highlight those students working behind the scenes to help others without the expectation of recognition or praise. And in turn, you offer and use your photographic expertise to showcase these youths and their good works to exemplify community pride and inspire hope for the future.

Frank Frost Photography donates the portraits for each class of Selfless Seniors. Those portraits are shown on APS electronic billboards and his studio also donates large display boards highlighting all the Selfless Seniors to each high school as well as any business wishing to display them. Additionally, these senior portraits and information about each student is displayed year-round at the Albuquerque Sunport.

Thank you for your creativity, both through ideas and through the camera lens, to better our community and for leading by example and honoring the Selfless Seniors among us. Your dedication and community leadership is “Picture Perfect.”
