Commission Approves COVID-Safe Changes for BernCo @ Alvarado Square

11/10/2020

Bernalillo County commissioners have approved changes to the Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square project that includes the addition of coronavirus (COVID-19) return-to-work initiatives designed to make the eight-story tower and commission chambers safe for the public and employees when the buildings open to the public during Spring 2021.

“The coronavirus pandemic has drastically changed the workplace environment for many of us and the recommended COVID-safe changes are extremely important and absolutely necessary to implement,” says County Commission Chair Lonnie Talbert.

The Alvarado Square design-build team, HB Construction and Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, recommended the following additions to their existing contract:

· Design and coordination including all of the design services that were affected by the return to work efforts, and any modifications to the building’s Fitwel certification - $284,910

· Furniture and workstation changes and COVID partitions - $102,911

· Directional and queuing signage and exiting - $119,965

· Sanitization requirements - $201,483

· Enhanced teleconference capabilities -$144,331

· Ability to work outside requirements - $374,355

The approved recommendations will cost $1.2 million and are eligible for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding. The items need to be purchased/installed as quickly as possible to meet the federal deadline to spend the CARES money before Dec. 30, 2020.

The resolution passed unanimously.
