Bernalillo County Declares State of Emergency Due to Dog Head Wildfire

The Board of County Commissioners on June 19, 2016 approved an administrative resolution to declare Bernalillo County in a state of emergency.

“The county is expending a tremendous amount of resources to support and care for the displaced residents,” says Vice Chair Wayne Johnson. “This declaration allows the county to recover costs associated with the fire and continue to provide for those affected.”

The Dog Head Fire started on June 14, 2016 in Torrance County and on June 15 crossed over into Bernalillo County. Currently, the fire is at 17,617 acres and is nine percent contained.

The public is asked to follow the Dog Head Fire and Bernalillo County NM on Facebook for updates and current information.
