Bernalillo County has a formal process for renaming county buildings/facilities, which includes a committee hearing, a public comment period, and final approval by the Board of County Commissioners.

Proposal to Name MATS Building William H. Wiese Treatment and Resilience Center

The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Assessment and Treatment Services Campus is located at 5901 Zuni SE in Albuquerque. The facility provides addiction treatment and behavioral health services.

William “Bill” H. Wiese is a retired physician who has spent countless hours volunteering in various capacities to support Bernalillo County’s medical and behavioral health initiatives. Bill Wiese is the current chair of the Bernalillo County Addiction Treatment Advisory Board. For more information about Bill Wiese, click here.

Your comments on the naming proposal will be shared with the Bernalillo County Naming and Memorial Committee.

The Naming and Memorial Committee makes recommendations to the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners regarding the naming and renaming of county buildings.

Note: There is a parallel proposal to change the name of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Assessment and Treatment Services Campus (MATS) to the Bernalillo County CARE Campus. CARE stands for Comprehensive Assessment Recovery through Excellence.
