Commissioner Hart Stebbins Sponsors Recognition of BernCo's Top Blood Donors

At its Sept. 22 Administrative Meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized employees who work with United Blood Services of Albuquerque, as well as those who have provided more than 40 blood donations.

United Blood Services (UBS), founded in New Mexico in 1951, is a nonprofit community blood center that provides blood and blood products for local area hospitals throughout the United States. UBS exists to make a difference in people’s lives by bringing together the best people, inspiring individuals to donate blood, producing a safe and ample blood supply, advancing cutting-edge research and embracing continuous quality improvement.

Bernalillo County has been partnering with the United Blood Services of Albuquerque since 1951 by hosting quarterly blood drives to aid in the effort to save lives. Because of the efforts of county employees who, in addition to performing their regular duties, work with UBS to coordinate or assist in coordinating quarterly blood drives, and to motivate fellow employees to donate life-saving blood.

Because of the outstanding efforts of the blood drive coordinators, and the gifts of blood from the dedicated donors, Bernalillo County is recognized as the second largest donor in the State of New Mexico. County employees have donated 437 units of life saving blood in 2015, and because each unit has the potential to save three lives, more than 1,300 friends, neighbors and family members are celebrating their lives today!
