The Reducing Racial And Ethnic Disparities Committee is a subcommittee of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Steering Committee in Bernalillo County.

The Bernalillo County Youth Services Center is a National Model Site for Juvenile Justice Reform and the Annie E Casey Foundation.

Its goal is to develop a different and more meaningful relationship between the community and the systems members, in order to identify and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system.

    Members will:

    • Listen and learn about racial and ethnic disparity
    • Learn about the Juvenile Justice System
    • Develop new levels of cultural competence
    • Support the strengths of the community
    • Work on community identified and community driven projects
    • Brainstorm ways to bridge systems gaps between the families in the community and the systems processes and staff
    • Understand the role of family engagement in a youth’s success
    • Understand the importance of building community capacity to serve children in their own families and their own communities
    • Attend both RRED and PMAC (La Plazita Institute) meetings if possible
