Addiction And Treatment Services

The Public Inebriate Intervention Program or PIIP, is a partnership between the University of New Mexico, the Albuquerque Police Department and the Albuquerque Fire Department.

The program operates in the evening from Tuesday through Saturday. Its purpose is to divert clients to treatment services rather than sending them to the Metropolitan Detention Center or area hospitals. The program reduces down and out calls for APD and AFD, and reduces wait time for patients at the UNM Emergency Room.

The program has a 30-bed capacity, which can be expanded based on detox census. Treatment offered includes two to 12-hour observation and stabilization.

The program has had 1720 admissions since April 2013.
