The Field Services Division (FSD) is the largest of the three divisions within BCSO. The FSD provides the type of service most typically associated with uniformed service. Deputies assigned to FSD work in various assignments. They are listed below.
BCSO is comprised of three area commands:
North Valley (NACC)
South Valley (SVCC)
East Mountains (EACC)
Each of these areas are overseen by a Captain and provide 24-hour service to the community with squads of deputies, reporting to a Sergeant and Lieutenant on each shift. These are the deputies that respond to calls for service when you call 911 or our non-emergency number, 798-7000.
FIELD SERVICES UNITS
Traffic Investigations Unit
Responsible to enforce traffic laws, detect and apprehend intoxicated or impaired drivers, investigate traffic accidents involving death or serious injuries, and Sheriff’s Office vehicles involved in accidents.
Responsible to identify and apprehend intoxicated and impaired drivers.
The Department maintains a well-trained and organized K-9 Unit to assist regular Deputies in performing their duties, and to assist other specialized units of the Sheriff’s Department as necessary. The sheriff’s office currently has K9 specializing in Explosive Detection, Cadaver, Search, Narcotics Detection, and apprehension.
Emergency response Team
The Sheriff’s Office provides a fully trained Emergency Response Team which is responsible for responding to natural disasters and civil disobedience to include, but not limited to: demonstrations, mass protests, etc. In addition, ERT is responsible for performing dignitary/executive protection.
Student Support Deputy (SSD)
This unit is comprised of uniformed deputies assigned to an APS middle school or high school in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County on a full-time basis. The SSD works in a problem solving partnership with school officials, students, parents, and the community. The SSD provides a law enforcement resource aimed at reducing crimes and addressing issues that affect the safety and welfare of students, faculty, and staff personnel, on and around school campuses.
Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
The Sheriff’s Office strives to maximize a successful end to a high-risk situation, with a minimum risk to Departmental sworn personnel and the public. The utilization of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team addresses these high risk critical incident with the appropriately trained and equipped personnel.
Community Service Aides
Assists divisions and sections with report taking, routing, traffic control, transportation, and other duties as assigned by the Division Commander.
Crisis Negotiations Team
The Crisis Negotiations team is a component of SWAT and is comprised of certified Crisis Negotiators. The personnel goal is the successful and safe resolution of Critical incident
Responsible for the safety of school children and other persons in school zones during periods of operation, and other duties as assigned.
Crisis Intervention Certified Dputies
All deputies assigned to the uniformed patrol function of the Field Services Division are trained in Basic Crisis Intervention.
