Q: Can I be a challenger or poll watcher for the 2020 Election?

10:10 AM

A: To serve as a challenger or watcher during early voting and on Election Day you must be appointed and authorized in accordance with New Mexico law. Individuals without proper authorization to be present at a polling place, other than to vote, will be asked to leave. There are penalties for disruption, intimidation, or coercion of voters in or near a polling place.

If you are interested in either designating individuals to serve as challengers or watchers or would like to serve as one, please read the NM Secretary of State's Handbook for Challengers. This manual provides information on who can designate challengers and watchers, the rights of challengers and watchers, and other election observation opportunities. There is also helpful information at NMVote.org.
