Bernalillo County Clerk Invites Public to Voter Registration Drive on National Voter Registration Day 2019

Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive 50-state effort to register voters. Sadly, every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they have not registered or forgot to update their voter registration. People move, change their name and simply forget to update their voter registration.

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote. More than two million Americans have registered to vote on this day since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day.

“Maybe you bought a house, moved to start a new job or school, or you got married and changed your name” says Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover. “We’re all busy with life, and sometimes voter registration just gets overlooked. That’s why there’s National Voter Registration Day. It’s a voter registration drive and a celebration of democracy with radio DJs, food trucks and community groups.”

Participating organizations include Bernalillo County (Clerk, HR, Treasurer, Assessor, Sheriff, Fire), City of Albuquerque, CNM Activities Office, League of Women Voters, NAVA Education Project and UNM’s Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. There will be music and DJs from KISS 97.3, Radio Lobo, Big 98.5 and Coyote 102.5. Food trucks include Nomad BBQ and Itsa Italian Ice.

“With your help, we can register and update many more voters than would otherwise be possible” continued Stover. “And we’ll have fun! So take a break, join us for lunch and bring a friend and be ready to cast your vote in the November 5th regular local election!”
