Early Voting Begins Oct. 19, 2019

10/14/2019

Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover announces early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 19 at 19 locations around the county.

“In-person absentee voting started Oct. 8 at the Clerk’s Annex at 1500 Lomas NE and so far more than 200 New Mexicans have voted there,” says Clerk Stover. “This Saturday, Oct. 19, the opportunity to vote, register to vote, or update your registration goes county-wide!”

This is the first Regular Local Election conducted under the auspices of the Local Election Act (LEA) of 2018 which provides for consolidated local elections to be conducted in New Mexico. The regular local election will take place on Nov. 5, 2019 and in Bernalillo County includes candidates and ballot questions for the City of Albuquerque, Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, Village of Tijeras, Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA), Paradise Hills Special Zoning District, Ciudad, Edgewood and Valencia Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) and Ventana West Public Improvement District.

“This is a first of its kind election so there was limited information on what kind of turnout to expect,” says Jaime Diaz, Deputy County Clerk, Bureau of Elections. “Given the scope of this election, Clerk Stover decided to prepare in the same way we do for primary and general elections.”

“In addition to the additional candidates and questions on the ballot, a change in the law allows voters to register to vote and/or update their voter registrations during early voting,” continues Stover. “In Bernalillo County, this will be possible at each of the 19 early voting locations beginning this Saturday.”

The 19 early voting locations are listed here.

In-person absentee voting continues through Friday, Oct. 18 and applications for absentee ballots will be accepted through Oct. 31. So far around 6,200 absentee ballots have been mailed.
