Final Week of Early Voting and Same Day Voter Registration

Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover reminds citizens that early voting and same day voter registration for the Dec. 10 Albuquerque Runoff Election concludes Dec. 7.

“This is the final week of early voting and same day voter registration for the Albuquerque Runoff Election,” says Clerk Stover. “We need city council districts 2 and 4 voters to make their voices heard!”

As of this morning, 4,627 ballots have been cast in the Albuquerque Runoff. During the regular local election total of 22,003 ballots were cast in districts 2 and 4 with 44.9% of citizens voting early and 46.24% voting on Election Day.

The Runoff Election for City Council Districts 2 and 4 is required under the Top-Two Runoff Election rule which requires candidates for Albuquerque City Council to receive fifty percent or more of the votes cast for the office in question. If no candidate receives 50% of the votes, the two candidates who receive the highest number of votes automatically become the candidates for the runoff election. The District 2 candidates are Isaac Benton and Zackary Quintero. The District 4 candidates are Brook Bassan and Ane Romero.

The following early voting locations are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019:

Clerk’s Annex – 1500 Lomas Blvd NW, Suite A (map)

Daskalos Center - 5339 Menaul Blvd NE (map)

Holly Plaza – 6600 Holly Ave NE, Suite B-6 (map)

Los Ranchos Villa – 6601 4th St NW, Suite E, F (map)

The Shoppes at 6001 San Mateo – 6001 San Mateo Blvd NE, Suite B-3 (map)

On Election Day, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, there will be 10 voting convenience centers open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no same day voter registration nor voter registration updates on Election Day.

To vote, county residents may identify themselves with a verbal or written statement of their name, registration address and year of birth. Or they may choose to present a physical form of ID such as a driver’s license, original copy of a utility bill, bank statement or student ID card.

To register to vote at an early voting location, county residents need to bring: a NM driver’s license or NM ID card issued through the Motor Vehicle Division of Taxation and Revenue; or, any document that contains an address in the county together with a photo ID card; or, a current valid student photo ID card from a post-secondary educational institution in NM accompanied by a current student fee statement that contains the student’s address in the county.
