County Clerk’s Office Shifts to By Appointment Only Service

    03/23/2020

Clerk Linda Stover announces changes to the Clerk’s Office operational status, urges citizens to register to vote or update their voter registration, and request an absentee ballot.

“To ensure compliance with COVID 19 social distancing guidelines, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, 2020, all in-person Clerk’s Office services will be available by appointment only,” said Clerk Linda Stover. “And for those registered Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians who will be voting in the Primary Election, please ensure your registration has your correct address and request an absentee ballot online.”

The Recording and Filing Division on the 6th floor of One Civic Plaza NW records property documents, maintains a database of maps and plats, issues marriage licenses and processes passport applications. Online services will continue uninterrupted. However, effective tomorrow, in-person filings and applications will be by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for Recording and Filing services, please call (505) 468-1202.

The Bureau of Elections Division on the 6th floor of One Civic Plaza NW provides in-person voter registration services to individuals, 3rd party voter registration agents and others. Effective tomorrow, such services will be by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for Bureau of Elections services, please call (505) 468-1291

Voters may register to vote, check, and/or update their voter registration on this page of the Secretary of State’s website. Voters who are registered with a major political party may then request an absentee ballot online on this page. Ballots will be mailed to all voters who have requested them on May 5, 2020. The last day the Clerk’s Office can mail out absentee ballots is May 29, 2020. Absentee ballots must be received by mail or hand-delivered to the Clerk’s Office or a Voting Convenience Center by 7 p.m. on Election Day, June 2, 2020.

“We regret the inconvenience that will be experienced by anyone who appears at our office without an appointment and urge the public to review the COVID-19 guidance provided by the State of New Mexico and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),” continued Clerk Stover. “And I urge everyone who wishes to vote in the Primary Election to register to vote, or update your registration if necessary, and request an absentee ballot. These things can all be done online. And try not to worry. We’ll get through this by taking care of our family and friends and complying with the social distancing and other recommendations to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

The State of New Mexico is using NewMexico.gov as a platform linking essential COVID-19 information, to include NM Department of Health Social Distancing and Travel Recommendations. The CDC Coronavirus COVID-19 website is here.
