    New Mexico state law allows qualified high school juniors and seniors who are 16 or 17 years old to serve as Student Election Clerks. Space is limited, so apply today!

    Serving as a Student Election Clerk is rewarding and fun!

    Who Can Apply?

    • Students must be a U.S. citizen, at least 16 years of age
    • Must have written permission from parent(s) or legal guardian, unless emancipated. A consent form is available online and can be returned by fax or e-mail.
    • Students cannot be related to any candidate currently on the ballot.

    Election Day Responsibilities

    Student Election Clerks must report to duty at 6 a.m. and work until all duties are performed. They assist with the opening and closing of the polling place, and help check-in voters.

    Training

    Student Election Clerks are required to attend a mandatory training prior to the election and are paid $35 after the election. Training helps ensure a throrough understanding of the election process, maintaining the integrity of the election, and the role of Student Election Clerk. Training is offered evenings and weekends.

    Online Application

    We've gone to an online application program to apply as a Student Election Clerk. Communication to students will be through email or text messaging to schedule skills assessments, coordinate training, and to hire qualified Student Election Clerks. The application process is easy, and enables the Bureau of Elections to better serve our constituents in an efficient and innovative way. Training resources, videos and communication tools assure ready and knowledgeable Student Election Clerks for election day. Apply today!

    • Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day, which is being celebrated around the county, is a chance to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote. Join Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover and staff on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to celebrate National Voter Registration Day on Civic Plaza with exhibitors from Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque, CNM, UNM and the Native American Voters Alliance Education Project. Food trucks will also be on hand for this non-partisan voter registration event.
