Work Your Way to a Healthy, Fit 2016 With BernCo!

1:52 PM

Work your way to a healthy and fit 2016 with Bernalillo County’s numerous fitness facilities, classes and programs!

The county’s Prescription Trails Program (Rx Trails) program developed a prescription tool and walking guide to increase walking and wheelchair rolling on suggested routes, targeting and promoting healthy lifestyle for families.

Sedentary lifestyles contribute significantly to chronic disease and poor health outcomes. Rx Trails connects health care providers and their patients to walkable sites in the South Valley. The outcome is a healthier, happier society.

Prescription Trails Program major partners include: NM Health Care Takes on Diabetes, National Park Service, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, City of Albuquerque, New Mexico State Parks, Albuquerque Alliance for Active Living and Bernalillo County Open Space.

At the county’s eight community centers, you’ll find a number of scheduled classes for all ages – from dance and body fitness to yoga, cheerleading, Zumba and chair exercise geared for seniors.

Plus, you’ll also find pickleball leagues, pickup basketball gym time, and lots more!

To see the full schedule of scheduled classes and activities, see our countywide calendar.

There are five fitness centers throughout the county – each has their own schedules, course calendars and top-tier equipment. For a list of all the facility locations, visit our weight rooms and fitness centers webpage; or visit each community center for specific information.

Our Sports Program organizes a wide variety of team sports activities for all ages and abilities at community centers countywide, including softball, youth volleyball and basketball, and adult basketball leagues. Visit our team sports page for information, registration forms and start dates.

Bernalillo County’s Rio Grande Pool is open year-round and features lap swimming, water aerobics, youth and adult competitive swim teams, and swimming lessons, as well as a recreation schedule. There’s also an indoor slide! Visit our aquatics webpage for all the information.

Bernalillo County recognizes and honors its veterans and seniors by offering free or greatly discounted fees – we invite you to visit any of our facilities, or call to get more information. A healthy, strong Bernalillo County begins with you!
