    Bosque Chile Festival this Weekend


    The 3rd annual Bosque Chile Festival will open for one day on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Food vendors, artisans, chef demos, poetry slam, kids’ activities, and music highlight the events at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

    New this year is the Ristra Run, a 5k trek down the bosque trail. The Ristra Run begins at 8 a.m.

    The annual Bosque Chile Festival is a unique celebration of food, art and culture in New Mexico’s Middle Rio Grande Valley.

    The Schedule of Events is as follows:

    8 a.m. – Ristra Run
    10 a.m. – Gates Open
    11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. – Chef Demos
    Noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. – Educational Workshops
    12:05 p.m., 1:20 p.m., 5:05 p.m. – Poetry Slam

    Main Stage:

    10 a.m. – Dancing Stars Dance Studio
    11 a.m. – Dawn Luz Padilla (music)
    12:15 p.m. – JAGG???????
    1:30 p.m. – Severo Y Grupo Fuego
    3 p.m. – One Point Dance Studio
    3:30 p.m. – Mirage, A Santana Experience
    5:25 p.m. – DJ Shuffle
    6 p.m. – Event concludes

    Due to unforeseen circumstances, the ‘Chicharron Challenge’ is cancelled.

    Admission is only $5 and kids five years and under are free.

    Park and ride is available from the Dreamstyle Arena parking lot at UNM at no charge.

    This event is presented by Bernalillo County and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

    • Plant Walk (9-11 a.m.) Take an easy stroll around the gardens and grounds of Bachechi Open Space and learn about native medicinal plants of our area that are most useful for our health and well-being. Discussion topics will include harvesting, herbal actions, preparations, cultivation, and plant ecology. The walk will be approximately 1.5 hours, and, if you would like, please bring note-taking materials. Grape Harvest (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) Join us to celebrate the grape harvest. Help pick grapes fresh from the vines at Bachechi to make and then sample homemade grape juice.
