BernCo Board Honors Award-Winning T3on3N Basketball Program

05/08/2018

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners, along with County Manager Julie Morgas Baca, would like to recognize Parks and Recreation employees for their dedication to the teens of Bernalillo County and receiving the State Youth Program of the Year award from the New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association for the T3on3N Program.

A special commendation is extended to community fitness section manager Laura Kennedy and volunteer David Dickerson.

For community fitness section manager Laura Kennedy:

For your outstanding direction and guidance of the youth program of the year from the New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association.

As a member of the Bernalillo County T3on3N basketball program, you have directly and substantially contributed towards a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community. This was demonstrated in the many Friday nights you spent providing mentoring, educational and employment opportunities, and life skills training to enable at risk youth to resist the temptations of drugs, gang involvement and crime.

In addition, you provided a fun and safe environment helping kids boost their confidence, attend school with dignity, be prepared to learn, love to play, and succeed!

Thank you for your service to the T3on3N basketball program and the development of better programs for the Bernalillo County community.

For volunteer David Dickerson:

For your outstanding direction and guidance of the youth programs and designation as Volunteer of the Year from the New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association.

As a member of the Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation basketball program, you have directly and substantially contributed towards a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community. Since joining the county six years ago, you have coached nine different teams.

During the winter 2017-2018 season, you gave your time to mentor not one, but three different teams. While training all of your teams, you devoted six hours of practice for each team. Additionally, you spent your Saturdays traveling the county to each team’s game for a total of 10 games per team, per season.

Coach Dickerson, you provided a fun and safe environment helping kids boost their confidence, attend school with dignity, be prepared to learn, love to play, and succeed!

Thank you for your service to the Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation program and the development of better programs for the Bernalillo County community.
