Calling All Chicharron Specialists!!

08/03/2018

This year’s cooking competition at the Bosque Chile Festival is now open to all cooks who want to face off against brick and mortar establishments to see who can prepare the best and brightest when it comes to New Mexico’s favorite pork pleasure, the chicharron.

The ‘Chicharron Challenge’ is a major part of the chile festival, slated for Aug. 18 and will feature cooks and chefs from the area competing for the honor of being chicharron champion.

Winners of the competition will each take home a custom-made Disc-it grill, plate, or utensils. Entry fee for the “chicharron challenge” is $25.

“We’re looking for anyone who’s got the chops to compete with the best,” says Nevin Montano, owner of Disc-it and sponsor of the event. “These pork morsels are not for the faint of heart, but for real chile lovers.”

The Bosque Chile Festival will take place at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 4th Street SW, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 18. Admission is only $5 and kids five years and under are free.

To sign up for the friendly competition, become a vendor and/or learn more about the event, please visit www.bernco.gov/bosquechilefestival.

This event is presented by Bernalillo County and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
