BernCo’s 2016 Summer Lunch Program Starts June 1

Bernalillo County’s 2016 Summer Lunch Program gets underway Wednesday at 51 locations throughout the county, offering free healthy meals to children and teens at churches, parks, community centers, apartment complexes and other locations. Vista Grande Community Center in the East Mountains has been added as a new location this year.

Bernalillo County will provide nearly 150,000 meals this year. No registration is required for the program, which runs from June 1 to Aug. 5.

The 51 locations are located outside Albuquerque city limits in unincorporated parts of Bernalillo County, including the South Valley, the North Valley, East Mountains and Paradise Hills. The locations were chosen based on the percentage of children receiving free and reduced school lunch in that area.

For more information, visit http://www.bernco.gov/yss/summerlunch or call (505) 314-0430 or (505) 314-0425. A map of this year’s locations can be accessed here.

The county program is separate from the City of Albuquerque’s program. The City of Albuquerque will serve summer lunches at many sites within the city. For more information and a map of the city locations, click here.

Bernalillo County’s Summer Lunch Program is funded by a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant administered by the state Children, Youth and Families Department.

The meals are prepared at the Albuquerque Public Schools central kitchen, and delivered to sites around the county.
