About the Property

The acquisition of this Urban Open Space site in 2018 launched the beginnings of the International District Urban Ag Plan. Through this process, the County led the effort to support and increase a range of existing and future urban agricultural activities within Albuquerque’s International District. The International District encompasses approximately 3.9 square‐miles, is one of the most ethnically diverse areas of Albuquerque, and also one of the most economically challenged in the state with over 40% of neighborhood residents below the federal poverty level. Plan objectives included facilitating and encouraging long‐term, sustainable support for various types of urban agriculture efforts such as increasing food security. The plan identified resources and provided informed recommendations to promote local agriculture and in which Bernalillo County can support and work with public, private, and community partners through cultivating new partnerships to benefit the entire county.

Design and Planning

The design consists of an accessible walking trail, at least partially paved; a gazebo/shade structure; 3 benches, doggie bag station. There is future potential to add pollinator homes/hives and basic, small gardening amenities.

The uses include the following:

  • Walking trail
  • Rest areas- benches, shade structure
  • Educational demonstration site for Soil Health, passive water harvesting techniques, alternatives to glyphosate
  • Urban pollinator garden
