We offer the following programs:

Youth Programs

  • Before School
    The before school program is on a first-come first-served basis and runs Monday-Friday, beginning at 7 a.m. and going to 8:25 a.m. at Vista Grande Community Center, 15 La Madera Road, Sandia Park, NM.  Registration fees are $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional child (these fees apply only once if enrolling in both after and before school programs at Vista Grande). Program cost is $212 flat rate per child for the full year, or $85 per child for a trimester. Accepted forms of payment are debit cards, checks, money orders, cashier's checks and major credit cards.  Free and reduced program fees are available with income qualifications.   • Parky’s Pals
    Parky's Pals is a recreational program designed for four and five year old minds and bodies from 9 a.m. to noon at the center.  Activities vary from music, painting, arts and crafts, to outdoor activities and field trips. Parky's Pals runs from Aug. 31 to Dec. 17, 2015 and from Jan. 5 to April 28, 2016.  The cost is $36 for four weeks or $230 for the whole year. Registration fees are $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional child . Accepted forms of payment are debit cards, checks, money orders, cashier's checks and major credit cards.  Free and reduced program fees are available with income qualifications. Note: updated shot records are required before children can be registered for the program. For more information call (505) 468-7500. A parent meeting for the current session is Aug. 27, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the center. 
  • After School
    The after school program is on a first-come first-served basis and runs Monday-Friday at Vista Grande Community Center, 15 La Madera Road, Sandia Park, NM.  Registration fees are $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional child (these fees apply only once if enrolling in both after and before school programs at Vista Grande). Program cost is $312 flat rate per child for the full year, or $131 per child for a trimester. There is also a Wednesday Only Plan for $72 per child for the full year or $24 per trimester.   • Summer Recreation  
    This summer at Vista Grande Community Center, the summer recreation program is back, with convenient schedules and affordable options. At our program, your child will have a safe place to make friends, exercise, play, create, explore nature, and go on field trips. Our program is managed by expert recreation leaders with over 50 years of combined experience. At Vista Grande’s Summer Recreation Program, kids have a place to be kids!

    The summer recreation program is for children aged kindergarten through eighth grade. Registration begins May 1, 2015 for youth currently in the VGCC program; May 14, 2015 for the general public.
    • Program Dates: Monday - Friday, June 8 - July 24, 2015  
    • Program Times: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.  
    • Program Cost: $212 for seven-week program; plus $15 registration fee; $10 registration fee for each additional child

       
  • Spring Break Camp
     
  • Mountain Men Wrestling
    • Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, practice 4:30 - 6 p.m.; tournaments on weekends
    • $80 + fees and equipment

  • Wrestling Skills Class
    This is only a skills class.  The team will not participate in tournaments.

    These youth classes develop character in each student and each student’s progress is measured individually. It also works on qualities such as courtesy, respect, and discipline. Both classes develop self-confidence, and self-defense skills. They are fun, safe, non-competitive atmosphere classes.  For more information call John Swenson at 307-8212.

    • Time: 4:15 - 5 p.m. (beginner); 5 - 5:45 p.m. (intermediate)

    This program is designed for anyone who wishes to play a competitive game or non competitive game of basketball, for high school students and adults every Tuesday and Saturday.  
    • Tuesdays, Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. high school students & adults
    • Saturdays 4 - 6 p.m. high school students & adults
  • Rules: 
    • Games are played 5 on 5 full court, first 10 players to show up get to play first game.
    • Baskets count for 1 point, 20ft or longer shot counts for 2 points.
    • First team to get to 15 points wins.
    • Winning team of 1st game played gets to play against next team waiting. After that, each team whether they win or lose plays two games and then sits and waits in line for their next game.
    • Players call their own fouls. No free throws, just take the ball out at top of key.
    • If there are more than 20 players present then the side courts will be used to allow more playing time.

  • Rules:
    • Teams are comprised of 6 players based on first come first serve.
    • Winning team of first game played gets to play against next team waiting. After that, each team whether they win or lose plays two games and then sits and waits in line for their next game.
    • Players call their own fouls.
    • If there are 24 or more players present then two nets will be set up. A third net can be set up for resting players to practice.
    • Rally scoring will be followed. The first team to 15 points wins. Matches are considered to be one game for open gym. ​

  • Garden Club 
    Do you have a green thumb or an interest in learning more about gardening? Join the Garden Club! This is a social club that meets monthly. The meetings are full of information shared by both members and guest speakers. This is also a great way to become involved with charitable projects. 
    • Second Tuesday of each month
