Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Strategic Plan 2019-2020

11/22/2019
11:43 AM

At its November 21, 2019 meeting, the members of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council adopted its first official Strategic Plan. This milestone document is the result of multiple months of one-on-one engagements and group meetings with CJCC members, subject matter experts and other stakeholders to collect input and ideas. While the track record of accomplishments of the CJCC and its individual members since the group starting taking shape in 2013 is impressively long, the Council agrees there is much yet to be done and this document represents a clear map of the road ahead.

This Strategic Plan marks a bold step forward and a renewed commitment on the part of criminal justice stakeholders to leverage the power of cross-system, cross-agency collaboration and dialog to move important criminal justice reforms forward.

The CJCC in Bernalillo County holds it own strategic plan alongside other peer members of the National Network of CJCCs. The CJCC in Bernalillo county is part of a growing national movement of local criminal justice officials choosing the CJCC model as the most effective way to catalyze important best-practice reforms that help improve public safety and ensure more efficient and fair criminal justice practices.

The Strategic Plan details goals and objectives to be addressed along the following four key strategies:

1. Improve the processing of criminal cases by improving the preliminary hearing process;

2. Improve the interaction between the behavioral health and criminal justice intersect by enhancing behavioral health services for justice involved individuals;

3. Improve data sharing between the CJCC partners by developing a data sharing system and data sharing agreements;

4. Establish and sustain the CJCC through addressing its structure and funding.
