Commission Extends County Manager Contract

The Board of County Commissioners has extended the employment contract of County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. The new contract will take effect Oct. 3, 2018 and extend through Oct. 3, 2022.

“Bernalillo County will continue to thrive and move forward under the astute direction and vision of County Manager Julie Morgas Baca,” states Commissioner Chair Steven Michael Quezada. “The commission board supports her and the progressive initiatives that she has pursued these past three years."

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve all Bernalillo County families,” County Manager Morgas Baca says. “My top priority is the best and most efficient use of tax dollars to provide quality public services for our communities, from public safety to parks and Open Space."

Morgas Baca is also dedicated to open government, transparency and proactive community relations.

Some of the recent accomplishments of County Manager Morgas Baca include:

  • Metropolitan Detention Center Resource Re-Entry Center (opened June 2018)
  • New Animal Care and Resource Center (expected completion late August 2018)
  • Authorization to proceed and purchase the Alvarado Square building
  • Bernalillo County Charter Development and Implementation
  • Entered into McClendon Settlement Agreement

Morgas Baca began her career as BernCo county manager in September 2015, when she was unanimously chosen for the county’s top job by the Bernalillo County Commission.

Morgas Baca will receive an annual salary of $195,000, up from her current annual salary of $175,000.

The Board of County Commissioners voted 5 to 0 to extend her employment contract.

    • Children in grades K-5 are invited to the Youth Beat Dance Camp at the South Valley Multipurpose Center May 28-31 where they will learn a hip hop and funk dance routine.     • The Pathway Camp at Paradise Hills Community Center is for teens ages 15-18 with special needs. The cost is $12 per day and is limited to 14 children.
