County Commission Approves Design and Name Of New County Building

Bernalillo County commissioners approved the design-build development phase for the renovation of the Alvarado Square building which will be the new home of the Bernalillo County government offices.

Approval of the design means the $45.7 million project can now move on to a final design and construction phase. Local company, HB Construction was chosen in March of 2019 as the primary contractor for the renovation to include a revamp of the building and facilities.

Commissioners also approved the official name for the new government center: Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square. Five naming options were presented to the commission with Bernalillo County @Alvarado Square being the official choice.

Both measures were approved by a 4 to 0 vote. Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada was excused from the meeting.
