County Commission Approves New AFSCME 18, Local 2260 White Collar Union Contract

02/15/2018

The Bernalillo County Commission, at its Feb. 13, 2018 regular administrative meeting, approved a new contract with the Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the union representing Bernalillo County’s white collar employees (AFSCME 18, Local 2260 White Collar).

Under the new agreement, AFSCME represented employees will receive a 4 percent pay hike and a $2,000 one-time payment for each bargaining member.

“I appreciate the patience of the AFSCME 18, Local 2260 White Collar members as they have waited five years for this well-deserved pay increase,” says Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “Although we always recognize the hard work and contributions of our employees and do our best to demonstrate it, adequately compensating them, especially as our basic cost of living continues to increase, is equally important.”

The financial impact to the county is $318,161 annually in recurring funds and $432,000 for the one-time payout, effective in fiscal year 2018.

The contract also allows for employees with a bachelor’s degree or higher from and accredited college or university to receive an additional $45 per month.

Other county employee related action approved by the commission:

· Sick leave conversion allowing employees, with accrued time, to take payment for up to 40 hours per year

· Vacation leave conversion allowing employees, with accrued time, to take payment for up to 40 hours per year

· Increased personal holiday leave days from 2 to 3 per year, effective immediately

· Bereavement leave for probationary employees
