Accounting and Budget Office Recognized for Excellence

01/24/2019

Bernalillo County’s Accounting and Budget Office has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest award in governmental budgeting.

The award is given to the county from the Government Finance Officers Association. The award recognizes Bernalillo County for producing a budget report for the biennium beginning July 1, 2018, which is clear, detailed and well organized in line with best budgeting practices.

The award program was established in 1984. It encourages local governments to pursue excellence in their budget planning and presentation. To receive this award, Bernalillo County satisfied national guidelines for governmental budgeting. These guidelines ensure a budget promotes practical finances and limits unorganized spending, and include:

  • Clarity of county goals and strategies.
  • Accuracy of financial accounts.
  • Detail of internal operations.
  • Quality of budget publication.

“The recognition of our annual budget report shows Bernalillo County’s dedication to responsible stewardship of public funds,” says County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “I congratulate the Accounting and Budget Office for their continued accomplishments and excellent service to our financial health.”

This is the 19th time overall that the county has received this award.

The Accounting and Budget Office also received the Special Performance Measures Recognition. The recognition further acknowledges the budget’s quality self-assessment, including financial measures which are clear, reliable and well-communicated. This was achieved by working hand-in-hand with the Business Improvement and Performance Office.
