Thanksgiving Weekend Uber Rides Available Through “Take a Ride on Us” Program

11/20/2018

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (ENDWI), the Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services, Uber, Premier Distributing, Budweiser Drink Wiser, and Cumulus Media Albuquerque, will once again be offering a safe ride option for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The “Take a Ride on Us” program offers Albuquerque Metro residents the opportunity to take advantage of a safe ride option to avoid driving under the influence during the Thanksgiving holiday in which high alcohol consumption is common.

From noon on Wednesday, Nov. 21 through 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, Albuquerque metro residents can open the Uber app and use the code TURKEY18. By using the code, riders will receive a credit of up to $10 off for up to two trips. The maximum number of trips available is 1,000. First come, first served. The credit can only be used for rides, not Uber Eats, and the discount does not cover tip.

“Take a Ride on Us” is the creation of Cumulus Media Albuquerque. The program has seen massive success through the incredible partnership of Uber, Bernalillo County and ENDWI. Listeners will be reminded about the code throughout the holiday on Cumulus Media’s Albuquerque radio stations.

Bernalillo County has contributed $60,000 to this effort, helping to pay for the first $10 of each Uber ride. The average Uber ride in the Albuquerque area runs less than $10. If the cost for the ride exceeds $10, the patron will have to cover the remaining amount.

The county’s financial contribution comes from liquor excise taxes – additional taxes that New Mexico retailers and consumers pay when purchasing alcohol. The taxes are collected and distributed to New Mexico counties by the New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department on a quarterly basis.

The $60,000 Bernalillo County has provided for this effort will help fund the program until the end of the current fiscal year, June 30, 2019.

Through this public-private partnership, it is easier than ever to avoid driving under the influence. Since its inception over a year ago, “Take a Ride on Us" has provided a safe ride option to over 10,000 riders in the Albuquerque Metro area.
