The Metropolitan Detention Center has been made aware of a potential “Bail Bond scam” involving the victim by calling them on the phone and telling them that their family member has been arrested. Callers are requesting that friends or family members can pay a sum of funds to get their loved ones out of custody. The scammer will then say that in order for their loved one to be released from custody, payment should be made by a specific method to a specific location. The Metropolitan Detention Center would like to stress to the community at no time will the Metropolitan Detention Center call anyone to request payment for the release of any inmate.
Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce and Deputy Treasurer Kenneth E. Scott presented the operations and investment results to the Bernalillo County Board of Finance at its regular meeting on Feb. 23.
Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Steven Michael Quezada, Mayor Tim Keller, and Albuquerque City Councilor Klarissa Peña will be speaking about the Illegal Dumping Partnership and plans for educating the public about the serious problem of illegal dumping to find ways to make this initiative move forward.
Bernalillo County commissioners have directed the county manager to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Albuquerque for the design and construction of a pro-practice/championship soccer facility at Mesa del Sol, just south of the Isleta Amphitheater. Additionally, the city will have managerial duties at the complex. Construction of the professional grade soccer field has already been completed by Bernalillo County. The agreement with the city will be for the locker room, restrooms and other amenities necessary to operate the facility.
Bernalillo County Animal Care Services officers recently took possession of 169 rabbits that were surrendered by the owners. Some of the rabbits have been placed with outside animal care groups and facilities, but at this time, there are still over 100 rabbits at the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center. Anyone wishing to adopt a rabbit(s) are encouraged to visit www.bernco.gov/animal-care-services and fill out a rabbit adoption interest card.

Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya R. Giddings would like to remind all property owners that the Notice of Reporting Requirements were shared once a week during the first three weeks of January in the Albuquerque Journal’s legal section, and the requirements apply towards the values currently being prepared by the Office of Assessor for the 2021 Notices of Values that property owners will receive come April and May. This notice outlines the certain provisions concerning reporting property to the Office of the Assessor for valuation and the claiming of available personal and organizational exemptions, and special methods of valuation. The goal of the Office of the Assessor is to ensure all property owners in the county are aware of the statutes and provisions of each section, especially reporting deadlines.

Feb. 28, 2021 is the last day to submit completed 2020 business personal property, livestock and manufactured home reporting forms to the Office of the Assessor. Each year, business personal property, livestock and manufactured homeowners must complete a report regarding their property to the Assessor’s Office. Information to report is equipment used for businesses, current mobile home information or individual livestock located within the boundaries of Bernalillo County. To avoid monetary penalties and a possible audit, property owners need to submit their reports on-time.

Bernalillo County, in partnership with the Albuquerque Indian Center, accepted the certificate of occupancy on the Tiny Home Village project and has welcomed the first residents to the community located at 101 Texas St. SE, in the International District.

Bernalillo County commissioners have accepted the $5 million emergency rental assistance grant. The Emergency Rental Assistance program makes available $25 billion to assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The grant has been earmarked for qualifying renters outside the city limits of Albuquerque, but within the county. The target date that Bernalillo County will begin taking applications is March 1.

The Bernalillo County Commission is now accepting live public comments during commission meetings through the Zoom video conferencing platform. Participants who wish to sign up for public comment must do so by 3 p.m. the day of the meeting. The application requires the Zoom username or phone number the participant will use to enter the Zoom meeting. Comments will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Public comments are limited to 90 seconds and may only be addressed to the County Commission. Disruptive conduct will result in removal from the Zoom meeting.

Bernalillo County is establishing a special account in the Bernalillo County quality of life fund which will allow residents to contribute to a program that offers families with school age children experiencing homelessness as a result of COVID-19 an opportunity to receive a temporary hotel housing voucher.

Bernalillo County has revised some of its operational procedures, including limits to in-person office activity, and continues employee teleworking to align operations with the governor’s updated public health order, which takes effect Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Five elected officials including two newly elected Bernalillo County Commissioners were sworn into office on January 1, at the Bernalillo County District Courthouse. The officials taking the Oath of Office include: Linda Stover, County Clerk; Nancy Bearce, County Treasurer; Steven Michael Quezada, Commissioner for District 2; Adriann Barboa, Commissioner for District 3; and Walt Benson, Commissioner for District 4.
