BernCo Offers Patio Grants to County Restaurants - $10,000 Grant Applications Available July 28

Bernalillo County businesses, outside the city limits of Albuquerque, who operate outdoor dining facilities can apply for grants up to $10,000 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds  beginning Tuesday, July 28. 

Program Overview:

In response to continuance of the State of New Mexico coronavirus (COVID-19) health requirements and limitations which have negatively impacted business income, Bernalillo County seeks to identify and provide financial support to restaurants, cafes, and other eligible food service establishments located outside the boundaries of the City of Albuquerque with viable plans to mitigate business interruption losses by expanding the outdoor dining options for their customers.

Utilizing funding provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Bernalillo County Economic Development Department is making grants available to support food service establishments in setting up and operating the following types of outdoor dining options:

  • Public sidewalks
  • Parklets
  • Private parking lots
  • Limited street closures

Eligibility:

Restaurants, cafes, wineries, and breweries that are permitted to serve food by the Bernalillo County Environmental Health Department, who are located outside the boundaries of the City of Albuquerque, are eligible to apply for an outdoor dining permit(s), and for corresponding grant awards. Entrants must meet the following qualifications:

· A physical place of business located outside the boundaries of the City of Albuquerque

· Current Bernalillo County Business License

· Current Bernalillo County Food Establishment Food Permit

· Current application for State of New Mexico Temporary Change/Expansion of Liquor Licensed Premises

 

Approved Grant Uses:

· Planning and/or design costs associated with construction/deployment of a parklet

· Construction materials used in the building/deployment of a parklet

· Additional staffing needs: food service, COVID-safe enforcement, security

· Purchase or rental of tents and/or shade structures

· Purchase or rental of tables, and/or chairs for use outdoors

· Purchase or rental of additional barriers to demarcate outdoor dining areas (exclusive of street-closure barricades)

· Barricading and signage to safely re-direct traffic flows

· Signage, art/creative displays, public engagement activities

· Purchase of personal protective equipment and/or cleaning supplies

· Insurance for the outdoor dining area

· Disposable materials to be used in outdoor dining

· Marketing

· Permit fees associated with temporary expansion

 

Required Documents:

· Current Bernalillo County Business License

· Current Food Establishment Food Permit

· If organization serves alcohol, copy of application for Temporary Change/Expansion of Liquor Licensed Premises (Issued by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department)

The link to the application will be available Tuesday, July 28 at 8 a.m. at www.bernco.gov and will be accepted until the close of business on Aug. 4 or until applications exceed the total grant funding of $200,000.

The application can be printed and mailed along with the appropriate documentation. Grants will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications will be available in both English and Spanish.

Once the online application process has begun, it cannot be saved. If an applicant exits the application process before submitting, the process will begin again when the applicant clicks the link. Once the form is complete and the documents are attached, applicants will click on the submit button and the application is complete. Applications cannot be accessed again once they are submitted.

Regardless of whether a business is eligible for this program, it may still qualify for other existing assistance programs.
