The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management maintains a 365 day a year, 24 hour per day, on-call posture for both high-impact (those that affect large portions of the population) and low-impact events (emergent situations that have citizen impact).
These events include hazardous materials incidents, search and rescue, aircraft incidents, multiple agency emergent incidents, radiological incidents, natural disasters (wind, flood, fire and earthquake), technological disasters, weapons of mass destruction incidents, and acts of terrorism.
We manage the Emergency Operations Center. The “EOC” is the place where the county’s upper management assembles to determine the best course of action during significant incidents or times of disaster. The staff may also respond to the scene as deemed appropriate to serve as a liaison between the incident commander and outside agencies. The emergency manager, or his designee, coordinates all requests for State or Federal agency support.
We have the ability to bring to any incident any number of pieces of equipment that exists in our inventory. This includes communication interoperability support, support vehicles, generator sets, shelter sets, and other specialized response equipment.
The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management can also bring support personnel to incidents. Through its emergency management mutual aid organization, the office can quickly and efficiently coordinate logistics support, overhead personnel, special task forces and strike teams including radiological monitoring teams, search and rescue teams, and communications teams.
