What do we do?


  • Records deeds, mortgages, judgments, satisfactions of judgment, liens, deeds of trust and maps and plats.
  • Maintain recorded documents which are instruments of public record and are accessible to the public. Currently maintains over 10 million documents.
  • Responsible for issuing and recording state mandated marriage licenses



  • Register voters and lawfully maintain voter rolls.
  • Provide voter registration and election related data for purchase by candidates, the news media, and the public.
  • Conduct federal, state and local Election Day, absentee and early voting for all political subdivisions that fall within Bernalillo County.
  • Identify and staff polling locations in accordance with applicable laws, and plan, arrange, and stage all election equipment deliveries to polling locations.
  • Disseminate election information in various media formats to community. Prepare the official canvass of election results.
  • Create and deliver voter outreach programs to increase voter awareness in the community, including language services for Native American and Spanish speaking voters.
  • Test and certify all voting tabulators, ballots and cartridges before each election to ensure compliance with certification provisions. Evaluate voting machines prior, during and after elections.
  • Serves as the primary location for poll worker training, also recruit and train troubleshooters responsible for voting tabulator maintenance on Election Day.
  • Serves as the elections headquarters, and absentee precinct location for Primary and General elections.
  • In accordance with the NM State Records Retention Schedule, store, label and arrange for destruction all election records, to include ballots.
