BernCo Takes Government Transparency to a New Level

    9:09 AM

County Manager Julie Morgas Baca and county budget managers unveiled and demonstrated a new transparency platform that highlights the county’s strategic plan in a more transparent and user-friendly manner.

“Providing greater transparency is one of my priorities as county manager and the new OpenGov portal presents information in a way that is more understandable to the citizens we serve,” says County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “At any time of the day or night, the public can access and analyze how well we’re doing our jobs based on whether or not our performance measures meet the goals outlined in the strategic plan.”

The Finance Division’s Business Improvement and Performance Office worked for several months to create the interactive platform that better illustrates the relevancy of the strategic plan and makes the county more accountable to the public.

“We applaud Bernalillo County’s decision to put its financial data online. In a digital world, on demand transparency should never be more than a few keystrokes away. Now that the data dashboard is active, we encourage citizens and businesses to utilize the information to collaborate with policymakers and help shape and drive public policies that ultimately make the county more efficient and accountable to taxpayers,” says Peter St. Cyr, executive director for the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government. “The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government has always contended that providing the public data it collects is an essential government function. Making the datasets available through public searches and downloads online should set the minimum standard for entities around the state.”
