    Why is this measure important?

    This measure is important because it determines the employment stability of the facility. Saving and retaining employees is a cost saving strategy. When a veteran officer leaves, knowledge, skills and leadership are also lost. There is a cost expense associated with recruiting, developing and training new corrections officers. Knowing vacancy rates is also critical in identifying organizational improvement opportunities. Having a fully staffed facility reduces overtime costs that cause an increase in expenses.

    MDC HR retrieves this information from - HR Position control; Empath; Data collected from employee exit interview 

    How is the measure calculated?

    Number of vacant positions divided by the total number of positions
