Measure Overview

# Performance Measure Strategic Plan Goal Business Strategy

Reduce correctional officer position vacancy rate (%)

Public Safety Increased Efficiency

Why is this measure important?

This measure is important because it determines the employment stability of the facility. Saving and retaining employees is a cost saving strategy.  When a veteran officer leaves, knowledge, skills and leadership are also lost.
There is a cost expense associated with recruiting, developing and training new corrections officers. Knowing vacancy rates is also critical in identifying organizational improvement opportunities. Having a fully staffed facility reduces
overtime costs that cause an increase in expenses.

Where does the data come from?

MDC HR retrieves this information from the HR Position control and from EMPATH.  Data is collected from employee exit interview.

How is the measure calculated?

Average the number of correction officer terminations for 3 months then divide by the total number of budgeted correction officer positions
