Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce Announces Strong Second Quarter Results

Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce and Deputy Treasurer Kenneth E. Scott presented the operations and investment results to the Bernalillo County Board of Finance at its regular meeting on Feb. 23.  The Board of Finance meets quarterly at the Vincent E. Griego Chambers at One Civic Plaza. However due to the current state public health order, the Board of Finance meeting was held via ZOOM and was available for live stream on YouTube. Highlights for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2020 include:

•    The Treasurer’s Office collected nearly 56% of first half 2020 property taxes (which is comparable to the previous two years)
•    $210 million distributed to taxing entities in January 2021
•    Net investment income up 9% over previous quarter
•    New operational dashboards presented at the Board of Finance meeting, giving new insights into office operations

“We had another strong quarter in the Treasurer’s Office,” says County Treasurer Nancy Bearce.  “My staff worked tirelessly during a very challenging period and our impressive results for the quarter reflect our dedication to Bernalillo County taxpayers.”

The goal of Bernalillo County’s investment policy is to protect public funds in a way that provides safety of principal, liquidity of the portfolio, and achieves maximum rate of return.

The next Board of Finance meeting is May 25, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Deputy Treasurer Kenneth Scott says, “While we are certainly in a challenging interest rate environment, we are still making a solid return.  Of course, we will continue to explore ways to maximize our yield while protecting taxpayer dollars.”
