Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County Commissioners voted to accept a Department of Homeland Security SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant Award to fund seven, full-time, firefighter positions beginning in January 2021.

“Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue applied for this SAFER Grant to ensure we are adequately staffed to meet the needs of the growing community, increase the float pool and reduce overtime,” says BernCo Fire Chief Greg Perez. “These seven firefighter positions will eventually go toward manning the new West Side County fire station, expecting to open in early 2022.”

The resolution passed on a 5 to 0 vote.
