WASHINGTON & BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – Bernalillo County has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for their Behavioral Health Initiative (BHI). The NACo awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

NACo awarded Bernalillo County Leaders at their Achievements Ceremony on July 14, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV.

“I’m so proud of our Behavioral Health Initiative team - from the amazing volunteers who serve on our subcommittees to our service providers and our County staff. This award is a reflection of unprecedented collaboration within our community, including vital partnerships with the City of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico Hospital. We’re honored to once again showcase the meaningful work being done in our community and how it is changing lives,” beamed Katrina Hotrum-Lopez, Bernalillo County Director of Behavioral Health Services.

NACo President Greg Cox said, “When counties are united at the national level, we are an immense force for the public good. I have seen firsthand the ability of county governments to transform lives and communities”.

Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast, comprehensive services counties provide. The BHI received two achievement awards: Resource Re-Entry Center and Subcommittee Volunteers. Last year the BHI was awarded an achievement award for the Mobile Crisis Teams and their program seeking to reduce Adverse Childhood Experience [ACES].

Started in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations. Each nominee is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received.
