Metropolitan Detention Center Scheduled Maintenance to Impact Inmate Visits and Phone Systems

An ongoing maintenance project at the Metropolitan Detention Center will impact inmate visits and phone systems intermittently during the week of Aug. 27, 2018.

Intermittent power outages will occur throughout MDC beginning in the mid-afternoon Tuesday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Aug. 31. During some periods of power outages, inmates will not be able to place phone calls or have visitation, as there will be no power to either system. Visits typically occur 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of morning visiting sessions during this time, as no visits will continue past 2 p.m. each affected day.

This maintenance project involves upgrading MDC’s transformer system, replacing the nearly 20-year-old transformers currently in use, with new, energy-efficient models. Contingency plans are in place during this time to ensure the safety and security of the facility, its inmates and staff during the power outages.

MDC appreciates the public’s patience during these necessary and beneficial upgrades to its transformer system.
