County Building Permit Applications Hold Steady

Permits for construction work in Bernalillo County have held steady during the coronavirus COVID 19 stay-at-home order issued by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Construction, repair and remodeling contractors such as plumbers, electricians and mechanical workers are considered essential during the shut-down.

The county has kept its planning and development services office open for permitting and has made some modifications, such as taking permits by drop box only, installing a handwashing station at the office, and ensuring that all visitors maintain social distancing directives.

“If anyone is looking for a positive for the local economy during the coronavirus issue, this is definitely one,” says Deputy County Manager of Community Services Enrico Gradi. “This is keeping employees on the job and, hopefully, will help stimulate the economy when the stay-at-home order is lifted.”
