Minimum Wage to Stay at $8.65 an Hour in 2016

The minimum wage will remain at $8.65 an hour in unincorporated Bernalillo County for 2016.

The Bernalillo County Commission passed the minimum wage ordinance by a three-to-two vote on April 23, 2013.

The ordinance increased the minimum wage by 50-cents per hour first on July 1, 2013, and also on Jan. 1, 2014. An annual cost of living adjustment  took effect on Jan 26, 2015, from $8.50 to $8.65 per hour.

Future cost of living increases, if applicable, will be brought to the County Commission for consideration in September of each year.

The measure applies to about 1,800 businesses and hundreds of workers in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County – areas that are located outside Albuquerque’s city limits.

Employers will be required to post a notice published each year by the county’s Planning and Development Services

Department informing employees of the current minimum wage rates and their rights under the ordinance.
