A poop fairy? Really? Well no, not really, and that's the point of this educational campaign.

There is no poop fairy. Our pets, especially our dogs, make great companions as we enjoy the wonderful outdoor spaces of Bernalillo County. But we need to take care of our beautiful natural environment by picking up after our pets. Whether you’re enjoying an open space trail or just your own neighborhood, you can keep our county more attractive and healthier by “scooping your pet's poop!”

Due to the success of our past yard sign campaign, we are currently unable to provide free yard signs at this time.

Why should we 'grab it, bag it, toss it'?

When pet waste is not picked up, it does not magically disappear or fertilize the ground. It remains there until it gets washed away by stormwater. Then stormwater pollution happens because that pet waste that was left on the streets, yards, trails or roadsides is then picked up by stormwater runoff and carried into drains or arroyos. Stormwater is not treated before it reaches the river, and pet wastes contribute to poor water quality.
There is no Poop Fairy...scoop your poop. Please grab it, bag it, toss it.

The Poop Fairy image and campaign materials were provided by Greenville County Soil and Water Conservation District in South Carolina. Based on a Colorado Scoop the Poop effort, GCSWCD’s campaign with the humorous fairy and tag line launched in 2011 and has continued to achieve national recognition.
