Fire Station 43

The Bernalillo County Fire Department, in unison with the county's Facility Management department, has identified Station 43 as the facility with the greatest need for interior and exterior improvements that include: additional bedrooms, bunker gear storage and larger more functional kitchen to accommodate three 48 hour shifts. The existing building was constructed in 1992 and is approximately 3800 square feet which includes living space and apparatus bays. Much of the facility will be remodeled to maximize existing floor space, meet current code requirements, repair structural, and infrastructure concerns.

Some of the modifications in the scope of the projects include:

Architectural: The existing floor plans will need to be reconfigured to meet Bernalillo County’s Fire Department needs.

Structural: Roof reconfiguration to alleviate possibility of leaks.

Exterior Improvements: Site improvements could include, additional parking spaces, exterior façade cosmetic improvements, and possibly new access road.

Building Systems: The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are currently being evaluated and could require some level of repair/replacement.

The programming phase of the design process will be handled through our on-call architectural contracts. An RFP was issued for mini-proposals. The selected Architectural Firm (Vigil and Associates) has completed schematic design and is moving forward with collecting information building systems, soil test and will move into design development immediately.
