Manny Ortiz was elected Bernalillo County Treasurer in 2012.

He has strived to provide the taxpayers a quality experience when dealing with the Office. He continues to work on the development of new programs and continue those very successful ones. For example, by listening to taxpayers, online programs will continue to expand with access made easier and more comprehensive.  To quote,

“We’ve worked hard to improve customer service and create new avenues for our community to interact with the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office.”

He has been serving New Mexico in both the public and private sectors for more than thirty years. With his many years of experience and expertise, he has grown his own accounting firm, and is dedicated to helping businesses large and small throughout the state.

Through consulting, negotiating and resolving tax and management issues, Manny has been able to help New Mexico business owners achieve growth, profitability through financial and resource management.

As a lifelong resident of New Mexico his commitment to helping people is dear to his heart. He has served on many nonprofit organizations that provide services to small business owners and stewardship to fellow citizens.

He has served as director for the New Mexico Business Resource Center, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA partners with the IRS offering free income tax service to low income families. Approximately 3,500 returns are prepared annually through the program.

Manny’s continued community service has allowed him the opportunity to give back by serving on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Organic Commission, Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Albuquerque Capital, the Private Industry Council, The Loan Fund and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. Serving as an Internal Revenue Service agent from 1965–1971, Manny developed in-depth insight into a broad spectrum of tax law, accounting and investigation techniques.

Joining the Small Business Administration (SBA) in 1971, his duties ranged from loan servicing, consulting potential small business owners on how to build a successful small business and provided educational seminars to communities in the southern part of the state.

In 1979, Manny started his own accounting practice and after 34 years continues to provide excellent services to business owners and individuals alike. Manny holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Western New Mexico University.

He is a current member in the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), Government Investment Officer Association (GIOA), National Association of Counties (NACo), National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers and Finance Officers (NACCTFO), National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), New Mexico Treasurers Affiliate and New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC) and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce.
