Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office Collects Over $14 Million in Delinquent Taxes

The Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office announces the collection of over $14 million in delinquent taxes from the 2016 property tax year. The Treasurer’s Office collected on approximately 89% percent of the outstanding tax notices. This represents the highest collection amount for Bernalillo County in the last 10 years.

It is important to collect as much as possible before turning over delinquent tax properties to the State of New Mexico. Once the properties are handed over to the state, the state will keep all of the penalties and interest, as well as other fees.

“This is another testament to the hard work of the Treasurer’s Office,” says Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy Bearce. “It is extremely important to collect everything we can to keep public tax dollars in Bernalillo County. Additionally, this money goes to APS, UNM Hospital, CNM, City of Albuquerque and others as taxing entities in the county. ”
