BernCo Youth Services Center Dedicates New 'Emanuel Project' Mural

On June 12, 2015, Bernalillo County Youth Services Center dedicated a new outdoor mural as part of the Emanuel Project.

Thirty-six murals have been completed in juvenile detention facilities throughout the United States. A total of 28,000 square feet of mural space has been painted by students alongside Emanuel Martinez since the program began in January 2011.

The Emanuel Project positively impacts at-risk youth nationwide by providing creative learning materials for the classroom and art therapy, support and supervisory staff in the proper use of the materials, displaying inspirational art in central locations and offering motivational and incentive programs. This vision is accomplished with the help of institutions, community and university system support giving hope for the future which will reduce recidivism, behavioral problems and increase success in the classroom.

This latest project is the second mural done by Martinez at the center, which is located at 5100 Second Street NW.
